I'm in the Northeast of India, and have managed to find a spot of internet, and so I'm taking the opportunity to get this week's jazz show up online.

Having a great time, incidentally. Enjoy the music.

02: Some newer sounds in the mix

Last week, I kicked off this series of shows with some fairly straight-ahead jazz from the 50s, 60s and 70s. This week, I've thrown in some 21st century flavours as well.

Aaron Parks's album was my favourite record of last year, and featured my kiwi friend Matt Penman on bass. Amazing player. Under-celebrated Brummie rhythm master, multi-instrumentalist and remixer extraordinaire Kaidi Tatham puts a new spin on Washington band Fertile Ground and there are some lesser-known treats in there from amazing Japanese pianist Hiromi (who I saw live at the Birmingham International Jazz Festival a few years back), Spengler, Azymuth and Shawn Lee.

The great thing about a Spotcast, of course, is that if any of these artists strike your fancy, you can check out more of their work simply by clicking on their names in Spotify. Not every recording by every artist is in there yet of course (I own three Hiromi albums that are not in Spotify) - but there's plenty there to keep you busy.

Gil Scott-Heron rounds the set off by asking the question some listeners may have on their mind for the whole two hours.

01: Post Halloween come-down

I thought I'd kick off this series of 'programmes' with a fairly laid-back, rainy Sunday, 'hang out at home' bunch of accessible tunes. No scary surprises in this bunch. Perfect for the post sugar-rush hangover caused by all those sweets you kept back in case there were any late trick-or-treaters who might otherwise have missed out... but then ate.
